Free jazz, powerful poetry, seething rage, collective liberation. w/ AB

Irreversible Entanglements is a free jazz collective with its heart set on liberation. In 2015, poet Camae Ayewa (AKA Moor Mother), saxophonist Keir Neuringer and bassist Luke Stewart stood together on the stage of Musicians Against Police Brutality following the murder of Akai Gurley by the New York Police Department.

A few months later, trumpetist Aquiles Navarro and drummer Tcheser Holmes joined them for a day of recording at Seizure’s Palace in Brooklyn. That very first time that the musicians played together marked the quartet’s official (and sensational) debut. Their first, self-titled EP comprises four relentlessly powerful pieces of music in which the instrumentalists draw heavily on their free jazz educations. Four pieces of sublime, razor-sharp poetry on black trauma, survival and power. The unmistakable essence of their music is the message: wake up, raise your fists in resistance and, with grace and determination, demand your freedom.
