Two ambient innovators present new work — an invitation to actively listen to dreams not quite forgotten.

Do you also believe that art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable? Then this double bill of innovative ambient will give you exactly what you (don't) like. Rather than disengaging, you might find yourself tuning in even more. Differently. Actively. Maybe even underwater.

Roméo Poirier
When Brussels-based French ambient deep-sea diver Roméo Poirier announces a new album, we listen up. His last release, Living Room (2022), was his most personal to date: inspired by his past as a lifeguard, Roméo played a collection of his father’s samples — his father also being a musician — underwater and re-recorded the sounds. He then processed these recordings using his trusted (and ever-growing) collection of analogue synths, crafting layered sound collages that feel nostalgic and timeless. Not alien, but more like a dream you never entirely forget.
Roméo Poirier’s new album Off The Record is to be released on October 10 on Faitiche, the label run by minimal techno pioneer Jan Jelinek. Fourteen tracks based on accidental recordings of studio conversations will take you through a clandestine history of recording studios. We’re celebrating with a seated concert for deep listeners. Welcome <3

Ulla
Ulla Straus crafts ambient music that both challenges and carries you, across sharp textures and sudden glitches, beneath hazy clouds of electroacoustics, through fragmented silences and vocal snippets, toward unexpected blends of guitar, piano, and woodwinds. After releasing music on influential labels like Quiet Time, Experiences Ltd, and Motion Ward, Ulla moved from Philadelphia and the fertile ambient scene of the American Midwest to Berlin. There, she released two albums: Foam in 2022 on 3XL, and Hometown Girl (under her new alias U.e.) in early 2025 on 28912. In both projects, technology and humanity seem to reach toward each other, with mixed and sometimes melancholic results. But don’t expect to simply drift away: this is ambient that asks you to listen actively.
