FuckUpNights #7

lecture
TH 14.05.2015 20:30

On the 14th of May Brussels will continue its celebration of Fuckupreneurs. Three speakers will candidly talk about their biggest professional failure

The speakers will share in 7 minutes:

  • What their project was
  • What went wrong
  • How it affected their personal life
  • What they learned
  • What they would do differently

At the end of each story you, the audiance, ask questions. All accompanied by beer and good friends.

The speakers who will candidly share their FuckUp Stories in May are:

Jean-Patrick Scheepers

Serial entrepreneur passionate about food, known as the creator of the Mmmmh! cooking classes and the Urban Farm Company. In 2012, he launched Foodstock, a new high-level foodstore concept in Waterloo together with a couple of friends. After 16 months of heavy work, they never managed to reach the level of clients they needed and were forced to declare bankrupcy. At that moment Patrick lost everything he had: money, house, friends, business recognition and most importantly his selftrust. Having learned a lot about business and himself, he considers this experience as the most expensive MBA possible. On FuckUp Night he will explain us how to lose 50 cents/cm, and how to start all over again. (This talk will be in French!)

Vincent De Coninck

Social impact manager at I-propeller/Oksigen Lab for Social Entrepreneurship. We have a lot to thank Vincent for, as he was one of the first to start trading organic and fairtrade wines in Belgium. He wouldn't consider the road he travelled as an entrepreneur to be a resounding success though. On FuckUp Night he will talk about implementing rescue plan after rescue plan and working for “free” for many years in a row and being naive, and on the other hand he will tell us what he learned about perseverance and reaching out for help.

Ursula Saint-Leger

Vice President Human Resources at AptarGroup. Ursula's biggest professional FuckUp occurred back in 1998, when she quit her job very quickly after being offered a position at Canal+. The show business was very appealing to her in those days, but soon after starting the job she discovered that her job description wasn't at all what it originally had promised to be, and that show business was actually a world full of drugs and even sexual harassment. She will share her learning on being drawn to the appeal of bling bling, priorities at work and how to prepare for job interviews.
