OPEN CALL FOR FEMINIST ARTISTS AND ACTIVISTS

Open call for feminist artists and activists to participate in an Online Retreat on December 3rd and 4th 2021. The retreat is part of Tashweesh Festival on conversations and alliances in feminisms.

L’Art Rue Association in Tunis is pleased to host an online retreat for artists and activists working and organizing on feminisms, gender and sexuality, to share their research, ideas, and projects in a creative and conversational setup. This is a paid opportunity for people who are from or based in the following countries: Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and Tunisia.

The retreat is part of Tashweesh Festival on conversations and alliances in feminisms. Given Tashweesh’s focus, applications to the online retreat from womxn will be prioritized.

 

ON TASHWEESH

Tashweesh is a multi-locations multidisciplinary art festival aiming to facilitate new feminist alliances and give platform to multidisciplinary art and research practices of intersectional feminism in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The next edition will take place in the fall of 2022.

Tashweesh is co-funded by Creative Europe and implemented by Beursschouwburg (Belgium), Tanzquartier Wien (Austria), Goethe-Institut Brüssel (Belgium) and L’Art Rue (Tunisia).

 

THE RETREAT

We are looking for 16 artists and activists working on feminisms, gender and sexuality, from different practices, who are interested in sharing their work and engaging in a multidisciplinary network.

The applicant must propose a sharing with a duration of up to 30 minutes. This can be a short provocation, a reading, a podcast, an extract or a full performance, a viewing, or a presentation of a research, amongst other forms. The medium of the presentation is nonacademic and flexible, as long as it is an original work relating to the subject and can be presented in an online format.

The selected applicants will be invited to share their work in the two-day online retreat as well as to participate in closed and public conversations, all of which are happening on December 3rd and 4th 2021.

Presenters will be each paid a fee of 580 EUR for their participation in the program.

Within a playful, safe, and creative space, participants will have the opportunity to share and interact with other presenters and experts, the public, as well as Tashweesh 2022 co-curators, Tania El Khoury and Bochra Triki.

The participation in the online retreat might lead to the inclusion in one or more of the Tashweesh festivals in Brussels, Tunis, and Vienna.

 

HOW TO APPLY?

Applications can be sent in any of the following languages: Arabic, English, French.

The Applications must include:
- Short biography
- CV
- Description of the work (or ideas) you intend to present in the online retreat. Please include: title, description, form, duration, language, and motivation (max 1 page A4, font size 11)
- Optional (you may include one or more of the following): portfolio with selected visual works, writing samples, links of previous works, links to articles on your work.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection of artists and activists will be announced in end July 2021.
